Windsor Prayer Shawl Ministry

 By a Hook & a Prayer

The Windsor Prayer Shawl Ministry started in January 2008 with a prayer shawl for one of our community members recovering from breast cancer. Since then approximately 40 women from the Windsor community have knitted and crocheted over 2100 prayer shawls which have been given to recipients all over the US and the world -Canada, Ireland, Mexico, Philippines, France, Haiti, Australia, Nigeria, Poland, & South Africa.
The shawls are made and given to the sick, the recovering, the grieving, the dying, & caregivers. They are made & given for celebrations, such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, births, baptisms, first communions, & confirmations.
They are given so that the recipients know they are loved, prayed for, thought of, & not alone.
Our yarn scraps are also used to make knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, slippers, & hand warmers for such fine organizations such as: The Sonoma County Kidney Foundation, Catholic Charities, Cancer Centers of America, Kiwanis Club of Windsor, & The Recovery Program for Women & Children in Santa Rosa.
We do not charge for prayer shawls. We only ask for donations. To raise money so we can buy more yarn to make prayer shawls. We do sell a variety of scarves, hats, booties, baby sweaters, & socks.
Anyone can join us, you don’t even need to know how to knit or crochet; we can teach you! We meet every Friday at 10 am to Noon in the community room at Vinecrest Senior Apartments, 8400 Hembree Lane, Windsor California.
