Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport

Located in the heart of Northern California’s Wine Country, Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (STS) has been connecting Sonoma County to the world for more than 80 years.

The airport’s history began in 1939, when Sonoma County purchased 339 acres of agricultural land and began construction of a runway. During World War II, the U.S. Army expanded the facility and operated it as Santa Rosa Army Airfield, where thousands of personnel trained and hundreds of aircraft were based. Sonoma County resumed operation of the airport in 1946, and STS has continued to serve both general aviation and commercial air travelers ever since.

In 2000, the airport was renamed in honor of beloved Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, who lived in Sonoma County for many years and left a lasting legacy in our community. Today, visitors are welcomed by Peanuts sculptures including the Flying Ace and World Traveler Lucy, celebrating Schulz’s connection to Sonoma County and his love of travel.

STS plays an important role in our local economy, making it easier for residents to travel and bringing visitors directly into the North Bay. The airport currently offers scheduled nonstop service to destinations including Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Dallas, Burbank, and Las Vegas, with connections available to destinations across the U.S., Mexico, and beyond.
